Rep. Long Announces Critical Grant Funding for Joplin Regional Airport

Press Release

The Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded a FAA Airport Improvement Program (AIP) discretionary grant in the amount of $4,795,103 to Joplin Regional Airport to reconstruct their runways.

"I recognize the value Joplin Regional Airport brings to our district, which is why I worked so hard to secure the grant funding necessary to reconstruct their runways," said Congressman Long. "I am a strong supporter of strategic infrastructure spending because it directly drives economic prosperity, and I am confident these improvements will have a profound economic impact for the Joplin area. This is a huge victory for Southwest Missouri, and I am grateful for DOT's efforts in helping us secure this grant."

"Infrastructure projects protect valuable local assets and federal funding for these projects provide an economic stimulus by bringing federal dollars back into the community," said Steve Stockam, Manager of Joplin Regional Airport. "This grant will provide funding to reconstruct the main runway at Joplin along with helping to bring jobs and positive economic impact to Southwest Missouri. This grant is very important during these trying times and we thank Congressman Long for his support. "

Coupled with money provided with local funding and matched through the CARES Act, as well as $2,287,777 in entitlement grant money, the Joplin Airport will receive almost $8 million in funding for their rehabilitation efforts.
